People always ask how I learned to sew. My Mom and Grandma "Bama" were both seamstresses. Therefore, I have been sewing since I could hold a needle. I would make pillows, blankets and clothes for my dolls. Then the pillows got cleaner, and Barbie had new outfits. I remember many long nights staying up late with my Mom and Grandma. When I was 10 I made these elastic shorts, red, white, and blue with stars. They were great, and I was proud. I continued to make outfits thought high school. During this time, my mom taught me how to draft patterns, and disassemble and repair sewing machines, which I am happy I learned that now! I then found the Grateful Dead at 14! I went to my first couple shows, and I was sold! I could sell patchwork! Jerry then died, but it kept going! I realized I could travel and sell my wears and guitar cases at festivals! That went on for many years. Sewing for 6 months then traveling and selling for 6 months. Somehow I ended up in Guerneville with this wonderful community, and was blessed with a store when the universe told me to sit still. Now I am able to do what I love every single day. It's rewarding, satisfying, and challenging all at the same time.
