Bat Walk #3
7:30 PM – 9:30 PM
What: Bat Walk and Talk
Where: Armstrong SNR and Austin Creek SRA
Cost: $20/ person and $30/family (2 adults/ reservation)
This fun and educational walk will meet at 7:30 PM at the Steward’s Office/ Armstrong Volunteer Center (address below) to carpool up to Bullfrog Pond at the back of the Bullfrog Pond Campground. This docent-led walk will be all about BATS! If your batty for bats or are just interested in learning more about this furry flying mammal this program is for you. We will cover a bat’s life cycle, what they eat and how to identify different species based upon the frequency of their ultrasonic chirps and clicks as they navigate through the dark.
This event is family friendly.
Instructor(s): Sue Grant-Duffield is a long-time Steward’s Volunteer and a life-long educator. Sue has been involved in Steward’s educational programs from Seal Watch to multi-day school groups as a trained state parks volunteer and docent and is an avid bat-lover.
Meets: Armstrong Redwoods Volunteer Center/Stewards Office, 17000 Armstrong Woods Rd, Guerneville, CA 95446 to carpool up to Bull Frog Pond
Reminders: Evenings even in summer can be cool at Austin Creek SRA please be sure to wear layers and bring bug spray (there is a reason bats are attracted to the pond), a folding chair and a flashlight. Finally, bats are sound sensitive animals and if you are squeamish please remember to express this soundlessly as while this is not a mass exodus event bats can come close to observers while chasing bugs.
